Many thanks to all the parents and children who gave up their weekend to come in and tidy up our Eco garden.
They created lots of new areas in our school grounds to attract mini beasts and planted new flower beds. They really are a bunch of Green fingers.

Saint Finian’s Primary School has introduced a fantastic new app on their iPads which will allow teachers to immediately share children’s work, photographs and successes with parents.  Seesaw is a window into our classrooms and an opportunity for parents to share in their children’s learning.  The children are really excited and are looking forward to sharing their work with their parents.  We would strongly recommend parents download this app on their phones, laptops or tablets.

The children will return to school on Thursday 1st of September from 9am-12pm.

Congratulations to Sophie Watson who took part in the Eason Spelling Bee County Down final this week.

We would also like to congratulate Emma Martin and Isla McKibbin who performed in the Young Musician Of  The Year competition. Good luck to Isla who will compete in the final.

 

Over the next 6 weeks P5 will be welcoming Nigel McGarry from IKEA to complete a course from Young Enterprise.

 

The children have been very busy over the last few weeks with different sporting events.

We have played in the Priory Integrated College football tournament, where the girls managed to win runners up medals. They had their medals presented to them by Michael O’Neill the Northern Ireland football coach. The boys narrowly missed out on a spot in their groups final and will hope for better luck in the final day of the school league to be played Thursday the 10^th of March.

Following the football the boys and girls combined to form a tag rugby team, competing at Londonderry Park in a tournament set up by Ards and North Down Council.

The girls were in action at The Aurora Bangor for a Netball Blitz organised by Ards and North Down Council.

Well done to all our children who have represented the school over the previous weeks.

This summer I will be returning to Uganda to see the progress made by Charlene’s Project since my last visit in 2014. Since then a new school has been established with over 750 children in attendance.  It is the biggest school to date the charity has taken on.

I am looking help with ideas for fundraising and know I will have the amazing support of the all in St Finian’s, any ideas please get in touch with me.

Joshua Kelly was a much loved pupil here in St Finian’s Primary School and will be sadly missed by the whole school community.   Joshua was a beautiful, kind little boy who was very popular with his classmates and the staff of the school.  His smile could light up a room and his bubbly, affectionate personality was infectious.

There is a severe sense of shock and grief throughout our school. Trained staff from the Education Authority’s Critical Incident Response Team are helping to support the staff and children through this difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Joshua’s entire family circle and the St Finian’s school community sends them our sincerest sympathy and support.
