Primary 6
In Primary 6 the children continue to learn and develop and build upon what they have been taught in previous years. We focus on developing their independent skills, as they become increasingly responsible for their own learning. We cover a wide range of activities throughout the curriculum and the children are stretched to achieve a high standard, particularly in order to prepare them for work in Primary 7. In Literacy children focus on improving their comprehension skills when reading as well as ensuring their written work is increasingly sophisticated. In Numeracy they build on strategies they have learnt throughout the school and develop new ways of tackling problems they are faced with. In the first term the children enjoy learning about Living things. Then we investigate our Faith and Light topic. After Christmas we learn about the Media and we finish off P6 with our topic on the Titanic .The children are able to access a wide range of the curriculum through ICT. In the winter term Primary 6 go to swimming lessons and will also be taking part in GAA lessons on a Monday afternoon and have PE on a Friday throughout the year. The children work to completing badges and certificates to different levels in some of these activities. We hope that all this enables the children to enjoy the learning and feel prepared for Primary 7 and beyond.
