Primary 1
September is always an exciting time in Primary 1 as we welcome our new children into Saint Finian’s. We begin the year by getting to know one another and learning about Ourselves and what makes us special. By October, the children are settled into a routine and begin to stay in school until 2.00pm.The Primary One classroom is a busy learning environment with the children actively involved in play each day. They have opportunities to dress up in the role play area and enjoy exploring in the sand and water trays, building models, painting, taking part in topic related craft activities and discovering new things on the interactive whiteboard. We also love to go to the outdoor play area to climb, ride trikes, bikes and scooters and play fun games with our friends. Our classroom and role play area change throughout the year from a farmhouse to a workshop or bakery or garden centre or even a beach as we learn about Colour, Animals, Materials. Food, The Seasons and Transport and Holidays. During the year we enjoy visits from the Farm, the builders and the Bakery which always prove popular!Primary One are involved in a “Buddy” system with the Primary Seven children and participate in joint activities throughout the year.Pupils also have an opportunity to spend the weekend with our special friends Jack and Jill, our class puppets, before coming back and recounting their adventures to the class.
